American Motor's Made a Truck and it Failed: The AMC Cowboy
In this week's episode, I dedicate an entire video to a completely forgotten truck from the early 70s. That truck is the AMC Cowboy. I had no idea AMC planned to create something to compete with the Ford Ranchero and Chevy El Camino. I wonder if AMC made the right choice by choosing to produce the Hornet hatchback over the Cowboy.
Thank you all for watching!

The Strangest Editions from the Chrysler Corporation (1980-2006)
Просмотров 17 тыс.14 дней назад
In this week's episode, I go over 4 of the strangest or weirdest editions from the Chrysler Corporation (Eagle, Chrysler, Dodge, Plymouth, Jeep). My goal is to avoid editions that are solely paint jobs. I find that a little boring. Instead, I look all over the internet to find the weirdest of the weirdest editions, trims, and packages. Thank you all for watching, don't forget to leave a like, I...
This 1980s Turbo Coupe was Built By McLaren and Pontiac
Просмотров 44 тыс.21 день назад
This is one of those instances where unless you've owned one or know someone who did this car has gone completely under the radar. These Pontiac Grand Prix Turbos were beasts during the time and I'm glad I could share with you all what I learned about them. This wasn't some out-of-the-ordinary one-off project between McLaren and Pontiac. This was a genuine production car offered from 1989 to 19...
The Wagon Epidemic of the 2000s (30+ different models)
Просмотров 7 тыс.Месяц назад
Station wagons were still holding on for life in the 2000s. As it turns out, there were more than 30 wagons to choose from just 2 decades ago. All from different manufacturers across the globe. In 2024, the only wagons offered are from Audi, BMW, Mercedes, and Volvo. In this week’s episode, I briefly go over all the wagons from 2000-2009. If I missed any, please let me know in the comments. Top 10 Slowest American Cars of the 1980s
Просмотров 82 тыс.Месяц назад
In this week’s episode, I count down the top ten slowest American cars of the 1980s. There were many outside factors that played a role in influencing the automotive industry during this time (1978-84’ especially). Automakers were focusing on fuel efficiency over anything and as a result, these cars lacked power. I’m talking over 20 seconds to reach 60 for most vehicles on this list. In 2024, t...

During the last few months of 1984, Ford dropped the Mustang's 5.0 in a boxy family sedan. The LTD was the perfect sedan for it as it shared the same underpinnings as the Mustang hence being on the Fox platform. Many fans of this car and of the platform gave it the name the four-door Mustang, but really it was the LTD LX. The Taurus SHO came out in 1989, 4 years after this beast was on the road...

Top 10 Longest American Cars of the 1970s (land yachts)

General Motors, Ford, and Chrysler competed against one another in this segment that is no longer around today. Of course, I am no expert, so if I miss anything, please let me know in the comments below. Thank you all...

Chrysler needed to do something after the K-cars were losing popularity due to the competition changing. In 1993 the LH platform was released to the public and it was a hit! After a few years, it was time for the LH's second iteration. 1998 would debut this all-new bubbly de...

With the cancelation of the Ranchero in 1978, there was talk about Ford coming out with another ute. The Ford Duran...

I owned a gently used, 5 year old 1993 Grand Prix SE, a graduation gift to me by my grandfather, who was a car guy and worked dealer trades for 20 years after he retired. It wasn't the Turbo, but it had plenty of power, and it stuck to the road like absolute velcro. I drove that car all over the continent, and even into far northern Canada when I moved there. No car I have driven, past or since, has ever induced the same feeling of confidence and stability. I loved that car, and only gave it up after the insurance company finally totaled it... after it's 3rd major crash (it took hitting 3 deer at once to finally end the legend).

In 1989 i I bought a new 89 Ford Escort ES. It was around $7500 new. It was basically a Escort Pony with a ground effects package including a rear spoiler and manual glass sunroof. Mine was red with gray cloth interior and automatic transmission and the standard 1.9 4 cylinder. To look at it, it looked close to being a Escort GT. I remember it was done by a company called Trimline of St Louis. I only seen 1 other like it in White around our area where we lived. I sold it in 94 and haven't seen it since. Don't know if anyone else remembers seeing these cars. It was a dealer option package.

Back in the day when the AMC Spirit was just coming i ran into a couple AMC engineers I believe out testing the new Spirit and asked them why the Cowboy never got made. They told me AMC lawyers pulled the plug on the idea due to safety concerns for the car based pickup type truck. This not the first time Nash and AMC considered building pickup trucks . There were prototype right after World War 2 from Nash and later in the 1960 era based off the then Rambler American. I have photos of both.

I live in KS and have never seen or heard of that car before. The "BU" on the tag is Butler county. Next to Wichita. That license plate in the back was ran from 2001-2007. The registration sticker is red so that would make it 2006 when that photo was taken. 9:55 timestamp. Will have to keep my eyes/ears open for word of it.

Courier = Mazda, Luv = Isuzu. The smart thing for AMC to have done, was for them to not spend money on developing more Jeep models, drop the J-series pickup, then buy into one of the Japanese manufacturers (which was possible at that time.). If that had happened, AMC would be the dominant American automaker

Thank you for this... my primary love has always been Cadillacs, senior Buicks and Lincolns,... but I've also always had a secret crush on AMC because both of my brothers and myself... each had an AMC car as our First Car. I thank you for this because up until now, I had never heard of the Cowboy. 🤯 That green and white version was pretty cool looking and it's a shame AMC had better ideas than they had liquid assets... not only for this, but for other ideas they had that never made it past R&D. 😕 That said, I think they probably made the more practical decision, because hatchbacks did typically outsell coupe utilities across the board. Sadly, the Cowboy probably would have only driven them into receivership sooner than they got there, anyways.

Land yachts rule! Had a '70 Chrysler Newport that had a backseat big enough for a threesome and a boot large enough to smuggle four buddies into a drive-in. I'd routinely cruise at 110mph, but that wallowy suspension earned it the nickname "Vomit Comet" We didn't need no lame third row seat to pile eight people in. If you're on the road and no motel, no problem. Those hoods were so long that it took two minutes to feel the impact when you rear ended somebody. Epic rides.

The Durangey (sorry I can't take a company that produces names such as "Mavi GT" seriously) was a straightforward modification of the Fairmont and therefore made a lot of sense, but you have to MARKET automobiles. A very nice idea. Just look at that production Fairmont -- it was practically designed to become an integrated pick-up/car! The factory could have done it cheaper.

I had an78 or 79 Eagle Coupe that my brother gave me. It was... well, it was very AMC, Reasonably rugged, you either liked the look or hated it. Interior was dull as dishwater, but functional. I think of it as an American Subaru, with a crappy engine, crappy transmission, and crappy transfer case. Looked kinda cool, drove like a dog. I sold it for a 1982 Black Nissan 280ZX that ran like new, had a 5 speed and was reasonably fast for the era. My brother was mad. I was happy. The end.

The AMC Hornet would have been a hit with the export market. There was a certain kind of prestige of having a American Car overseas like in europe. The main thing that the truck bed would have benefited from is Tax cuts in many different European countries especially Finland. The Amc Rambler American was selling good numbers in Finland since it was American & Cheap. If they would have introduced a truck version later that would have lowered the price even more. Toyota realized this and made the Timangi for this reason and it did sell in high numbers. The Elcamino also did sell good as well.
